In questo momento, l'agricoltura è in grave crisi. È recente, per esempio, la notizia del crollo delle semine di mais...Per questo, di fronte a una crisi alimentare così ampia dovuta al global warming e alla conseguente siccità straordinaria (ormai diventata ordinaria), è importante non usare ciò che si potrebbe mangiare. Così come sarebbe urgente mettere in cima alle priorità dell'agenda politica l'emergenza climatica.
In un tale contesto emergenziale, quando si definisce un prodotto "ecosostenibile" è importante che lo sia davvero: dunque, che utilizzi materia prima proveniente dagli "scarti", secondo il principio dell'economia circolare. Il mercato trabocca di lettiere vegetali a base di mais o di tofu ma si tratta di materie prime che potrebbero nutrire, non certo di scarto. E in questo momento sono una scelta decisamente poco sostenibile.
Greencat invece usa solo ed esclusivamente le parti non edibili dell'orzo per produrre la sua lettiera. Cosa significa? Vuol dire che quando l'orzo viene lavorato, Greencat prende le parti restanti dalla sua lavorazione (che, altrimenti, andrebbero buttate) e le lavora con le tecnologie più innovative per trasformarle in lettiera ecologica, 100% biodegradabile e che può addirittura essere interamente riutilizzata come compost. The market is overflowing with vegetable litter based on corn or tofu but these are raw materials that could feed, certainly not waste. And right now they are a decidedly unsustainable choice. Greencat, on the other hand, uses only and exclusively the inedible parts of barley to produce its litter.
What does it mean?
