Ormai sappiamo che le lettiere minerali per gatti sono altamente inquinanti (per produrle si scavano montagne e rappresentano un rifiuto molto "pesante" da smaltire) e non sono sicure per la salute dei gatti (e degli umani), a causa delle polveri che si sollevano inevitabilmente dalla cassettina. 

Dunque, piano piano (ma nemmeno così lentamente osservando i dati del consumo per la pet care...) le lettiere minerali sono state sostituite dalle lettiere vegetali. I consumatori, infatti, stanno diventando sempre più consapevoli e tendono a prediligere le lettiere di tipo vegetale. 

Ma anche da questo punto di vista, è necessario fare dei distinguo. Innanzitutto una lettiera vegetale davvero ecologica è un prodotto realizzato esclusivamente con materia prima vegetale e proveniente da economia circolare, quindi completamente biodegradabile e trasformabile, eventualmente, in compost. Sono molte, infatti, le lettiere prodotte con materia prima vegetale ma spesso questa materia prima sarebbe principalmente destinata all'alimentazione: un esempio su tutti è il tofu (derivato dalla soia e alimento per una grande fetta della popolazione mondiale). 

Greencat ha scelto di produrre invece una lettiera 100% vegetale e biodegradabile, smaltibile nel WC o nell'umido ma trasformabile interamente in compost (grazie alla certificazione OK compost HOME) e che deriva solo ed esclusivamente da ciò che resta dalla lavorazione dell'orzo. Dunque, non usiamo orzo destinato all'alimentazione ma solo ciò che andrebbe "buttato". Lo trattiamo in modo innovativo e aggiungiamo solo lieviti naturali. 

Infine, perché una lettiera sia davvero naturale è importante che non siano aggiunte fragranze (che potrebbero anche dar fastidio al gatto). Noi non aggiungiamo profumi ma la nostra lettiera non ha cattivi odori: il merito va a un particolare metodo di trattamento delle molecole di ammoniaca. Anch'esso tutto naturale, e brevettato.

But also from this point of view, it is necessary to make some distinctions. First of all, a truly ecological vegetable litter is a product made exclusively with vegetable raw material and coming from a circular economy, therefore completely biodegradable and transformable, possibly, into compost.

Actually, there are many litter produced with vegetable raw material but often this raw material would be mainly destined for food: an example above all is tofu (derived from soy and food for a large portion of the world population).

Greencat has instead chosen to produce a 100% vegetable and biodegradable litter, disposable in the toilet or in the wet but entirely transformable into compost (thanks to the OK compost HOME certification) and which derives from what remains from barley processing. Therefore, we do not use barley intended for food but only what should be "thrown away".

We treat it in an innovative way and only add natural yeasts.

Finally, for a litter box to be truly natural it is important that no fragrances are added (which could also annoy the cat). We do not add perfumes but our litter does not have bad smells: the credit goes to a particular method of treating the ammonia molecules. Also all natural, and patented.
