Si fa presto a dire ecologico...Sul mercato ormai, nonostante la massiccia presenza di lettiere minerali (per nulla ecologiche e altamente inquinanti, oltre che poco sicure per la salute del tuo gatto), trovi moltissime lettiere che si definiscono ecologiche.
Oggi dire ecologica può significare tutto e niente. Per comprendere se la lettiera che si va ad acquistare sia davvero ecologica, è importante imparare a fare un veloce ma fondamentale controllo.
Prima di tutto, la composizione. Etichetta alla mano, una lettiera ecologica deve contenere soltanto un paio di ingredienti. È indispensabile che si tratti di materia prima di origine completamente vegetale e che questa materia prima sia quindi non solo 100% biodegradabile (no waste) ma che provenga anche da economia circolare. Quindi, una lettiera vegetale ma a base di un potenziale alimento non è una lettiera completamente sostenibile.
Greencat ha in etichetta solo le parti non edibili dell'orzo e una piccolissima percentuale di lieviti naturali. Quindi non contiene orzo che potrebbe nutrire esseri viventi ma solo ciò che resta dalla lavorazione del cereale.
Poi, la lettiera davvero ecologica e sostenibile si può smaltire nell'organico, nel WC e deve essere anche compostabile certificata. Greencat si può smaltire in questi tre modi, essendo anche più solubile della carta igienica, ed è certificata OK compost HOME.
Una lettiera davvero sostenibile è anche una lettiera che cerca di ridurre le emissioni di CO2: la materia prima di Greencat viene trasportata su chiatte dal punto di lavorazione dell'orzo sino al Consorzio Agrario di Cremona, dove viene trasformata in lettiera.
Infine, il packaging deve essere completamente riciclabile. Greencat è contenuta in sacchetti di carta riciclata e riciclabile.
